SPRING is here! The weather is warming, the birds are chirping and it’s time to celebrate. To express our gratitude to the bounty of spring, we present “Simple Gifts” from Aaron Copland’s Appalachian Spring, in a beautiful arrangement by Link Harnsburger, as well as William Grant Still’s tone poem Pastorela. May is of course the month for Mothers and so we will honor these important women in our lives with a lullabies–one for viola and cello by the British composer Rebecca Clarke, and another for two violins by American composer Maria Newman, in her Appalachian Duets. And we end the evening with the Trio in C Major, Op. 87 by the birthday boy himself, Johannes Brahms, celebrating his 192nd birthday on May 7.
