Pianist Robert Thies joined by Cellist Charlie Tyler

Growing up in Palos Verdes, Robert Thies first gained international recognition when he won the Gold Medal at the Second International Prokofiev Competition in St. Petersburg, Russia. The Los Angeles Times praised him as a pianist of “unerring, warm-toned refinement, revealing judicious glimmers of power.” Aficionados highly regard Robert’s recitals not only for his consummate musicianship and sensitive artistic interpretations, but for his illuminating observations about the composers and the selections.

Fast-rising cellist Charlie Tyler studied at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris and earned degrees from Juilliard and the Cleveland Institute of Music, where he won the school’s concerto competition. He continued at the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music, where he earned a doctorate and won the school’s Atwater Kent Strings Competition, performing the Britten Cello Concerto with the UCLA Philharmonia. He was also a top prizewinner at the Osaka International Music Competition and received the Karl Zeise Memorial Cello Award at the Tanglewood Music Center.
