David Garrett, cello

Faculty cellist David Garrett presents “Bach and His Influence,” an evening tracing the profound musical legacy of J. S. Bach through three centuries of cello repertoire. Joined by faculty artists Sheng‑Ching Hsu (violin) and Phillip Triggs (viola), along with cello students from his studio, Garrett performs Bach’s Cello Suite No. 3, Reger’s Suite No. 1, his own arrangement of Bach’s “Ricercar a 3” from The Musical Offering, and Villa‑Lobos’s Bachianas Brasileiras No. 1.

This program highlights how Bach’s musical language inspired composers far beyond his own time, offering a rich journey from Baroque counterpoint to 20th-century sound worlds.
