Captivating Strings
June 1 @ 7:00 pm
Free
Join us for a beautiful summer evening of music from Melodia Mariposa. We are honored to present a truly extraordinary ensemble for this performance. We are being joined by two esteemed members of the acclaimed Calder Quartet—violinist Benjamin Jacobson and violist Jonathan Moerschel.
The Calder Quartet is internationally renowned for its dynamic artistry, precision, and adventurous programming that seamlessly bridges classical masterworks with bold contemporary voices. Praised by The New York Times as “superb” and by the Los Angeles Times as “one of America’s most satisfying ensembles,” the Calder Quartet has performed at prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and Walt Disney Concert Hall, and has collaborated with composers like Terry Riley, Andrew Norman, and Thomas Adès, as well as artists ranging from Philip Glass to The National.
Cellist John Walz will perform his own edition of the Bach Suite in D Minor, which he created during the months of Covid. Then John and Altadenan bass player, Abe Gumroyan will delight with a duet by Rossini. The program concludes with Dvořák’s String Quintet No.2, where John and Abe are joined by Benjamin Jacobson, Ana Landauer and Jonathan Moerschel.
As ever, tickets are free, but reservations are requested.
