BRASS MUSIC THROUGH THE AGES

Brass quintet doesn’t offer the same historical conventions as the string quartet—we don’t have a Beethoven quartet, for example. But without those constraints, we can offer a bit of an unconventional FREE-FOR-ALL—A bit of early Bach and Gabrieli on modern instruments, Russian salon music from the 1890s, music from the German Brass, and then we will storm into the 20th century and beyond with music from film and TV, some inspired by jazz. Local Los Angeles music scene composers such as Jim McMillen (Bridgerton), Bill Mays (jazz pianist who accompanied Frank Sinatra), Fred Steiner (Perry Mason and Rocky and Bullwinkle) and Steve Huffsteter (legendary jazz trumpet and composer from Altadena) will also highlight our program.
