Vivaldi’s Four Seasons is classical music at its most vivid: birdsong, storms, summer heat, icy winds, harvest dances, and virtuoso fireworks. Violinist Oliver Neubauer brings this perennial favorite to life in his first appearance with the Chamber Orchestra at St. Matthew’s. Praised by the New York Classical Review as an artist who is “a shining example of the whole package defining qualities of talent…the kind of taste and judgement that make a musician always worth hearing,” Neubauer’s Four Seasons is sure to be a season highlight. The Pardee Memorial Fisk Organ makes another appearance in Bach’s lively Concerto for Organ in D minor, BWV 1059. Henry Purcell’s engaging Suite for the 1690 play, The Gordian Knot Untied serves as a tunefully lyrical representative of the English Baroque.
