Street Symphony

Experience the powerful work of Street Symphony at Sierra Madre Playhouse, where music becomes a bridge to connection, healing, and hope.
This intimate, unconventional program features Street Symphony’s jazz band and a small ensemble of singers — no more than eight exceptional professional musicians in total — creating a personal, powerful evening rooted in human connection. Narrated by Street Symphony Founder/MacArthur Fellow/violinist Vijay Gupta alongside a community storyteller, the evening flows through classic American jazz standards (think Thelonious Monk), California cool jazz, and surprising moments of modern pop and soul. You might even find yourself singing along, as the performers invite you to step into the story and share in the music.
Free from orchestral formality, this concert embraces warmth and immediacy, breaking the fourth wall to draw the audience into a shared experience. Every artist on stage is dedicated to using music as a force for dignity, renewal, and community — on stage, on the street, and everywhere in between.
