Wadada Leo Smith is a trumpeter, multi-instrumentalist, creative composer/performer and author. This concert celebrates his incredible contributions to American music over the last seven decades. This concert features performances by violinist Shalini Vijayan, cellist Ashley Walters, and others to be announced. In this special one-night-only performance, RedKoral Quartet (Shalini Vijayan, Mona Tian, Andrew McIntosh, and Ashley Walters) will be joined by Wadada Leo Smith on trumpet as he weaves in and out of his String Quartet No.17. Co-curated by Shalini Vijayan and Ashley Walters, the concert-length work offers a timely reflection on the institutions of democracy by one of today’s most prolific composers of string quartets. The musicians of RedKoral are specialists in Smith’s music, having recorded his first twelve quartets for a release on TUM Records in 2022. We hope you will join us for this special performance!
